In Hawaiian spirituality everything is totally interconnected, and everything has a Spirit/Soul. Haumea is thought of as an ancestral Mother, the Divine Creatrix, and the Spirit of Mother Nature that flows thru everything. She is the Goddess of Fertility and Childbirth. She is a matron Goddess that birthed all Her children, except for Pele, from different parts of Her body. Haumea is said to have created all eight of the Hawaiian Islands. They are all volcanoes and She is the fire that sits within. She is able to turn Herself into a Crone, a Mother, a Maiden, a Shark, a Human, and many other forms. Haumea is also able to become Her own daughter or granddaughter. She is exquisite and brave.
The Lei embodies the Aloha Spirit of the Hawaiian people. It is a token of greetings and of goodbyes, it is a sign of friendship and love. The Lei means Hospitality, Love, Peace, Hello, and Farewell. The flowers may only last a short time, perhaps only a few hours, but the memory of having a Lei placed on your shoulders lasts forever. A Haku Lei is a Hawaiian crown of flowers. It is worn to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings to name a few. In 1929 Lei Day became an official Holiday in Hawaii. May Day is Lei Day on the islands and it is a time to celebrate the beauty of Hawaiian culture with beautiful leis, hula, music, and crafts. It is also a time we celebrate the birthday of our Kahuna. Please join us for this beautiful Ritual and spend time in the Aloha Hawaiian energy, making Haku Leis, listening to Hawaiian music, and being in the Aloha spirit that is so much a part of our Temple.
For this ritual please bring two bunches of flowers for our Haku Lei making. Wear your Hawaiian clothes, pareos, something flowery. Bring your Hawaiian word if you have one from a previous ritual. For the altar bring a candle that is any color of the rainbow, any symbols or pictures of Haumea. If you are called and can find them please bring any tropical fruits ~ Breadfruit, Mango, Papaya, or any yummy fruits or veggies to adorn the altar. Haumea is always pleased to see Her abundance. Please bring Hawaiian food for our Luau!
