2019 Dis

Aloha Daughters of the Goddess;

What a beautiful journey traveling down the river with Oshun.  The sweetness of the oils and perfumes filled the air, voices in unison singing the chant, breath-taking.  And so we continue our travel into the darkening times as we journey to the lands of Scandinavia.

Out of the mists of the cold, by the light of the moon, comes Dis.  She was primarily worshiped in the Scandinavian countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and a bit into Finland and Iceland.  Ancient, unspoken, hidden; She connects us to our female ancestors.  Little is known and most agree that She is one with/and part of the Disir ~ divine spirits of our dead ancestors.   Ancient ones, primordial matriarchs, Divine Grandmothers who ruled the clans before the introduction of the patriarchal Gods.  They have always been there to help guide us when we take the time to listen.  It was believed by some of the tribes that when womyn cross over they connect with the Goddess/divine and become minor Goddesses themselves and so are able to more assist their people.  The essence and power of the female spirit was known and celebrated.

At the beginning of winter, for 3 days, a celebration called Disablot is held in honor of the divine female spirits.  A great gathering was brought together from far and wide.   At the start of the ceremony a ritual sacrifice was made by priestesses.  An extravagant banquet was held, and all gathered around the food, listening, sharing, storytelling and honoring their sacred female ancestors.  The gathering around food and storytelling is ancient and old and is part of most all traditions and greatly associated with womyn.  As we move into the New Moon in Sagittarius, we call in our connection with our female ancestors.  Come and gather with us for a night of feasting and storytelling.

For this ritual please bring a white candle in a glass jar, please no plates.  Also, and most important, please come prepared to share with us some of your stories about your female ancestors.  It can be family, friend, mentor, teacher, warrior, whatever female ancestor is calling.  We will also be starting our banquet as we share our stories so please bring something for the feast on the altar.

Please see our participation page for more information on attending our ceremonies.
