2020 Annapurna

Aloha Daughters of the Goddess,

The Great Wheel continues Her turn as we gather in late Winter to celebrate the worship of food as Sacred.  I decided to put this celebration together with International Women’s Day as a way to Celebrate the many ways we as females come together as nurturers and the providers of food.  I am honored to present this day of cooking and sharing of our cultures and also a much-requested DAYTIME Ritual on a WEEKEND!  You have been heard so please heed the call.  Big Magick will be womynfested on this day and it is also the Full Moon Magick of Earth sign Virgo.  Bring your Kitchen Witch skills to give and receive a day of our cultures joining together in a resounding circle and call for World Hunger to end!

Annapurna or Annapoorna (Sanskrit: अन्नपूर्णा, Annapūrṇa, lit. filled with or possessed of food) is the goddess of food and nourishment in Hinduism.  Worship and offering of food is highly praised in Hinduism and therefore, the Goddess Annapurna is regarded as a popular deity.  She is an avatar (form) of Parvati, the wife of Shiva. and is eulogized in the Annada Mangal, a narrative poem in Bengali by Bharatchandra Ray.  The Annapurna Sahasranam is dedicated to the Goddess and praises Her one thousand names while the Annapurna Shatanama Stotram is dedicated to her 108 names.  A few temples exist that are dedicated to Her, the most prominent being the Annapurna Devi Mandir

Annapurna is also a form of Parvati and She is one who feeds the hungry inhabitants of the Earth. In one of Her stories, She is keeper of the kitchen in Kashi.  She wears celestial purple and brown garments and is seated on a throne, distributing food.  Her name means, The Giver of Food and Nourishment.  Anna means food and or grains and purna means full, complete and perfect.

Please bring ingredients to cook and prepared a mini meal from your culture or a beloved culture you connect with.  A favorite family recipe from an ancestor or something new and creative would be great.  Let your kitchen witchery guide you. We will spend the day taking turns blessing our food, eating in community and sharing stories of our culture and/or stories of the food you are sharing. Please bring a candle of any color that you will want to cast for humanity to be full, complete and nourished! We are the change we want to see in the world.

Come to Feast, Pray and Cook for one another as an enactment of what we as Womyn want to Celebrate and Vision for our International Day. Come to us, come to us, come to us, Be Here Now! I’m super excited to share our day together! Big hug!

Please see our participation page for more information on attending our ceremonies.
