Aloha Daughters of the Goddess;
Our Temple just came back from the first pilgrimage to New Orleans. We lived in Goddess Community for four days and we were treated to days of storytelling and learning from our Temple Elder Luisah Teish. Coming back to the Bay Area the blooms of early spring have faded. Now the Jasmine, Hyacinths and Straw Broom Flowers are flourishing, setting the whole land in a glorious array of colors and smells. This makes it a perfect time to celebrate the Wild Goddess Artemis.

Come and join us under the Libra Full Moon to celebrate one of our Temple’s Matron Goddesses, Artemis. Artemis is a Goddess of Light. She is often depicted carrying a candle or torch, lighting the way for others, leading us through unknown places. She is a protectress of the wild places, childbirth, mothers, children and wild animals. She is also the Goddess of goals and what we want to aim for. With Her bow and arrow She aims straight, shoots and always makes Her mark.
Artemis is depicted in Greek art as a young, fair maiden dressed in buckskins, carrying a bow and a quiver of arrows. She is often shown accompanied by wild creatures such as a stag, swan or she-bear. Artemis is one the best known and worshipped Goddesses. There are many myths of Artemis in which She is fighting for the truth and others where She protects womyn and the wild places to be free.
She is a Goddess of the Moon, independence, compassion, healing and self-sufficient living. She is a virgin Goddess, virgin meaning that no one owns Her. She is a sovereign womyn. On this night we will be working magick for our own Sovereignty and oppressed people around the world. We will continue to add to our Temples on going magical work of to protecting the children and the wild places of the world.
Artemis’ symbols are the Moon, double axe, lightning, thunder, bow and arrow, javelin, torch, the star Sirius, forest and herbal medicines. Her sacred animals are, bears, wolves, lions, birds, deer, snakes, fish, boar, goats, bees horses, dogs, wild animals in general, swan, kite, vulture, crow, dolphin and quail.
What are you aiming for? Bring to the Ritual those things that Artemis can help you shoot for. Aries and Spring is good time to bring energy and fire to your goals which Artemis can help us with. For the Altar please bring a White, Silver or Green Candle in a jar, Images and symbols of Artemis, images of animals and the moon.
