Ariadne, known as the Utterly Pure, is a Minoan Goddess and Mistress of the Labyrinth. She is the Goddess of the shining Moon and the Underworld. She is a dancer who dances celestial spiral motion. The spiral dance evokes the whirling stars of the cosmos. Ariadne was later adopted by the Greeks when She aided the hero Theseus by giving him a sword and a ball of yarn so that he could kill the Minotaur at the center of the Labyrinth and find his way back out.
Labyrinths are Ancient symbols that relate to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools. Labyrinth patterns are universal they are seen in petroglyphs, Navajo basket weaving designs, and paintings or drawings from all over the world. They have different patterns and meanings, and have been our living ways to walk prayers and the cycles of life.
Walking Labyrinths can be a deeply transformative experience. This is a special ritual because we will be walking the Labyrinth with the Daughters of the Goddess Community. Outdoor Labyrinths are created as a way to help connect to the Sacred Natural world.
With the wildflowers blooming it will be a wonderful day for hiking in the beautiful hills and into the Labyrinth. We will be hiking rain or shine. Please wear comfortable clothes and hiking/walking shoes. You are welcome to bring a small offering to leave in the center of the Labyrinth. Bring water and anything else to make yourself comfortable outside. Please bring snacks to share that is packed so that you can carry out to the labyrinth. Join us for Sacred walk of the Labyrinth.
Please see our participation page for more information on attending our ceremonies.
