Light up your torch with Shemesh

Daughters of the Goddess

Aloha Daughters of the Goddess,

As the warm breeze blew through the Temple, we gathered for Ixcacao and sat around the table eating the food from each sister’s culture.  We all shared stories of our ancestors and about what we had made.  It’s beautiful that we have so many womyn from all around the world to learn from and celebrate.  Join us for our next ritual celebrating the Canaanite Goddess of the Sun, Shemesh.

Shemesh/Shapash is the Canaanite Goddess of the Sun, the torch of the Gods, and is considered an important deity in the Canaanite pantheon and among the Phoenicians.  She was the royal messenger to the high God El, Her father.   Shemesh is listed second in importance, with Ba’al being the first in a formulaic list of deities.   She is tied to many stories involving the care of snake bites and is often called upon to help when one has this problem.

What torch are you lighting?  What will you choose not to hear no to?  Anything is possible!

For the altar, please bring a white candle novena candle, any of her symbols:  the snake, the mare, a torch, the Sun, and any images of Her, white or pastel flowers, innocent blooms like white daisies or paperwhites.
