The rain has been giving the Earth and Her plants a delightful drink. Spring is here blessing us with the beautiful blooms and first sprouts. As we go outside and smell all the luscious fresh garden scents, may we be reminded that the Goddess has blessed us with the returning of Spring. Come Celebrate Spring Equinox and Persephone with us!

Persephone, the Greek Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld, daughter of Demeter and Zeus, teaches us the change of the seasons. She shows us how birth and rebirth are connected to dark and light. She is also known as Kore or maiden, who reminds us of the balance and how there is good in both. Beginning in Ostara, She is a youthful maiden, innocent and full of joy. At Mabon, She returns as the Queen of the mysterious darkness below.
When She comes out of the Underworld, Persephone, with the help of Her Mother, Demeter, awakens the Spring and Summer. At this time She brings the warmth, flowers, sprouting grain, and the light. Then when She goes back in, Persephone reaps what has been sown. Fall, Winter, cold, the secret enigma and darkness take over. This is how She shows us the balance of light and dark and the way the seasons are said to have begun.
Persephone is depicted as a beautiful young Maiden holding a bundle of grain and a flaming torch. She loves narcissus flowers, such as, Daffodils and Paper Whites because they are symbols of rebirth and new beginnings. Her fruit is a pomegranate because when She ate six seeds while in the Underworld, She was bound to living there for part of the year. Being so close with Her mother, She reminds us of the sacredness of our relationships with the womyn who birthed us, both physically and spiritually.
Please bring to the altar a green or purple candle in a glass container, crystals, pomegranates and the seeds, any narcissus flowers, and/or any images of Her.
