Aloha Daughters of the Goddess,

We journeyed down to the Yucca Valley in the desert of California.  There, we visited Valarie Eagleheart and her wonderful shop, Rainbow Stew.  We gathered with a group of wonderful women and celebrated with a Hawaiian Salt blessing led by Kahuna Leilani.  And now we journey to the deserts of Egypt to celebrate Ma’at.  Her judgment and wisdom are so needed at this time.  Come and celebrate with us.

Ma’at is the Egyptian Goddess of Truth, Justice, and Order, and is the stability and foundation of our world and words.  She is the Goddess who brought the world from Chaos and into form at the very moment of creation.  Ma’at is in charge of the stars, seasons, and the actions of both mortals and the Deities.  She is the foundation platform, upon which the Scales of Justice, the Temples, and the statues of the Deities stand.  She is often depicted kneeling or sitting, with wings on both of Her arms.   Or seen as a young woman, standing holding an Ankh in one hand and a scepter in the other.  Her name, translated literally, means “Truth”.

Ma’at has 42 principles to live by, which are rules to keep us living in truth, harmony, and humility.  She weighs the hearts of the dead on Her scale.  When one passes over, one arrives at the Hall of Ma’at, where She sits with Ammut – Devouress of the Dead at Her side.  The heart is placed on one side of the scale; on the other is placed Ma’at’s feather.  If the heart balances with the weight of the feather, the person passes into the afterlife.  If it does not, the person is eaten by Ammut.

For the altar, please bring a red or yellow candle in a glass jar. Please bring ankhs, ostrich feathers, or any images of Ma’at that you may have.
