Spring Equinox is a celebration of the renewal of life on Earth. The trees are budding, and starting to flower. Some of the little seedlings are starting to peek thru the soil. The birds are getting active, and the chicks are starting to appear. Flowers are starting to bloom and spread the lovely fragrance. Everywhere life is bursting forward. At this time, Day and Night are equal for a brief moment. We also celebrate a time of balance. It is the beginning of the warmer season in the Northern hemisphere. Light triumphs over dark, the days lengthen, and the temperatures rise. The beginning of the planting seasons comes with light.
Ostara, or Eostre, is a West Germanic Goddess of the Spring and Dawn. She is the first warm winds of Spring, and the birds that return. She is the trees that bud and send out its leaves and flowers. And She is the awakening earth, rabbits and hares, the eggs that appear after a winter of no light. Ostara is usually experienced as a young maiden bedecked in wreaths of flowers or new greenery.
